“Jonah Preaching to the Ninevites” by Gustave Dore.

This fallen world of ours is in rather desperate straits. Every year over seventy-three million children are murdered in the womb, a number which has increased even as the number of unplanned pregnancies declines. At the same time, a number of countries are moving to legalize euthanasia (a polite term for the state-sanctioned killing of the aged and infirm), with disasterous consequences for vulnerable people. Economic inequality has soared to unprecedented heights, while each year hundreds of thousands of people are killed by war and other forms of organized violence.
In light of our present crises—of which escalating conflict, ongoing bioethical atrocities, and rampant economic injustice are only a few examples—it has never been more important for Catholics to put forward a radical political alternative, informed by the teachings of the Church, and dedicated to the elevation of the human condition. The purpose of Aequitas is to provide a voice for the Catholic-left, with the aim of providing just such an alternative.
The content of this publication will include coverage of current events, discussions of political philosophy, and deep-dives on important matters of public policy. The goal will be to provide an analysis grounded in Scripture, sacred tradition, and the accumulated knowledge and experience of the socialist movement, in roughly that order. I hope that you will find something here to nourish your spirit and steel you for whatever troubles may lie ahead.
